EXPERIENCES
Narawara
Narawara is a group of standing dead oak and Erman's birch trees that line the marshes that spread inland from the Notsuke Peninsula, and is another "dead tree forest" that symbolizes the Notsuke Peninsula. This area was once forested, but the trees died due to subsidence and the inflow of seawater, and now only the white, weathered trunks remain. The landscape is quiet and desolate, and the different tree species and location from Todowara give it a more primitive, inland impression.
The area around Narawara is also ideal for bird watching, with small marsh birds such as the Siberian Rubythroat, Stonechat, and Reed Bunting seen from spring to autumn, and Steller's sea eagles and white-tailed eagles sometimes seen soaring overhead in winter.
*Entry to Narawara Forest is prohibited due to wetland conservation. Please enjoy the view from the parking lot.
