Autumn is the perfect season to visit Notsuke Peninsula, with fewer tourists and to relax in the quiet nature. While the vibrant flowers of spring and summer are not as vibrant, the golden silver grass that spreads all over the place offers a unique autumn beauty that is definitely worth checking out.
Also, at this time of year, many whooper swans, brent geese, and ducks migrate to Notsuke Bay, and the sight of birds along the water's edge signals the arrival of the new season. Furthermore, birds of prey such as peregrine falcons and goshawks may also make an appearance, flying in to hunt them, making this a season not to be missed by birdwatchers.
On a clear day, you can capture the sunset on the horizon and the Ezo deer walking across the grassland in the background, making this a great spot for photography enthusiasts. Why not avoid the crowds and enjoy the autumn scenery of Notsuke Peninsula in a relaxed atmosphere?

It's about a 5-minute drive from the entrance to Notsuke Peninsula. On a clear day, you can see the Shiretoko Mountain Range and Kunashiri Island in full view, and in November the snow on the mountains is particularly beautiful, creating a striking contrast with the blue sky.

Todowara is a landscape symbolizing the Notsuke Peninsula, with rows of dead fir trees caused by seawater. The surrounding area is home to salt-tolerant coral grass and sea aster, which grow in colonies and form a carpet of red and pale purple from September to October. It is about 1.3 km one way from the Nature Center, or about a 30-minute walk. The sunset over the pier at dusk is also a highlight.
